Only twice a year can you experience this tour…

Twice a year studios and galleries in our area offer a fresh art tour.  This weekend is the fall tour.  Each location offers a unique experience of particular artists’ expressions and the opportunity to talk to the artists face-to-face.  All offer demonstrations.  Many have guest artists, too.  See new sculptures, quilting, watercolors, art tiles, art wear for women, handmade pottery, oil paintings, weaving, woodcarving, ceramic sculpture, textiles, hooked rugs, jewelry, photography, drawings, monotype prints, hand-turned wood, and fine art books.  Visit as many locations as you can.  Find out more about each here.

Enjoy nature’s palate of gold and red fall colors as you travel from one location to the next.  Stop by downtown Stockholm, check out the items for fall in the shops, and refresh yourself with a beverage or treat at our eateries.

See Gaylord Schanilec’s highly anticipated third piece from The River.

At Abode Gallery, we are excited to let you know that we just received Gaylord Schanilec’s third piece from his project The River.  He has titled the piece Morone Chrysops, which is Latin for white bass.  Gaylord pictures The River as a study of the animal life on the Mississippi.  His first two pieces from The River are Pelicans and Short Red Head Horse Fish.  Take a look at his new piece here.

The first framed print of Morone Chrysops, one of two hundred, is available at Abode Gallery along with low-numbered unframed prints.  Stop by soon to see Gaylord’s new print in person and pick up your copy.

While you are here, notice Roger’s fabulous fall display outside.  It reflects our fall tradition of having Cohn-Stone glass pumpkins in Abode Gallery.  All pumpkins are hand-blown with Tiffany mercury glass stems imbued with pure silver.  You must see these to appreciate their beauty.  Click here for a sneak peek.

Join us for Celtic music and a giant bonfire this Saturday.

Saturday, September 21, celebrate the autumnal equinox with us at Stockholm.  The Hounds of Finn, a traditional Celtic folk-rock band, will perform at 7:00 p.m. at Widespot Performing Arts Center.  Clap your hands and tap your toes as The Hounds perform original and time-honored pieces inspired by Celtic, Americana, Bluegrass, and folk music.  They will also touch on a sprinkling of Irish and Scottish tunes as they deliver some of the finest Celtic-roots music in our region.  Tickets are $14 for adults and $8 for kids 12 and under.  Go to widespotperformingarts.org to reserve your seats.

Refresh yourself at the Widespot cash bar located inside the theater before or after the concert.  Choose from wine, craft beer, soda, and water.

After the concert, join us in the park as we light our traditional equinox celebration bonfire on the banks of the Great River.

Meet the “factory” that makes Stockholm pies…

Someone new to the Stockholm Pie Company walked in last weekend and immediately asked, “What factory makes these pies?”

Kent, our friendly pie server, pointed to his fellow servers and said, “We are the factory that makes these pies.”

Yes, we are the “factory” that hand makes each item sold in our little shop.  Each crust is individually stirred up and rolled out.  We don't use mixers to blend a crust; we mix it with a fork and a pastry blender.  A plain, old-fashioned rolling pin is our tool to roll out the crust.  We hand peel and slice our apples.  We only choose fresh apples; our apples have never seen the inside of a can.  We never pour any commercial pie fillings into our crusts.  We make cream pies with select ingredients that we mix up and cook on the stove.  We never have a box of pudding/pie filling in our kitchen.  The whipped cream on our cream pies comes from real cows, whipped up right here.  All of the ingredients in our pies are real and made by hand.

Amy's Handmade Bread for our sandwiches is stirred up and hand kneaded in our kitchen.  Amy has a patient touch with the bread, kneading until it is just right.  Imagine one of her freshly-baked 9 grain or cheddar chive buns with our pulled pork and homemade barbecue sauce!  Mmmm….

Fall brings back some our favorite things to eat – handmade apple dumplings and pumpkin pie.  Apple dumplings will be available the second weekend in September.  Have you tasted pumpkin pie made with honey?  Yum!  You can order that honeyed pumpkin pie now.  The pie will appear on our menu in October.

Yes, Stockholm Pie Company is a small shop, but every single item on our shelves was hand made right here, all real and delicious, by our “factory” personnel.  Our goal is to have each item worth the time and effort you take to visit our shop.  Due to the popularity of our pies, we advise you to place an order ahead of your arrival and to come early.

We'd love to see  you again,
