Stockholm Turns Trashy

Our merchants have a great sense of pride for our village. When the prospect of placing regular ol' trash cans around town arose, they got creative.

For a small town that sees a lot of visitors over the course of a year, garbage cans are a real necessity, helping to keep things picked up and litter contained. But when you're a small village known for your big arts, no ordinary trash receptacle will do. Thus, "trashy art" was born.

Through this project, several local merchants have come forward to adopt a garbage can, transforming each into beautiful works of art. You'll see them scattered about town and we invite visitors to put waste in its place, and at the same time engage with art that's colorful, fun and entertaining.

Next year these artsy trash receptacles will be up for adoption once again, and given a new look. It will be exciting to see how they are transformed from purely practical to functional and fun year after year.

We wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to our Trashy Art sponsors for 2014:
